Consuming and consumerism

This weeks lecture was on how we as consumers consume things. The fact that we now pay without using money because of cards. How from the 19th century we were more of a product society, where people grew things and made things in order to see. Where as  after that time we become a consumer society.

Also the fact that now shopping has become an event, where we dress up to go, and become a family day out, due to food areas and restaurants. That we know sometimes make a day of it. Which is suggested to be embedding in our culture.

Also the idea that we have a more ‘fitish’ society, where we add meaning to things and giving an object power such as a rabbit foot bringing you luck.
