Two weeks of our field module, we were coordinated into quite random and mixed groups, including every first year students in the school. It was a way of a students with different socialisms to do a project together.
In the first Monday we did activities, which were more like team building exercises, such as building a tower using spaghetti and marshmallows. It was something I hadn’t done before, and it was a good way for us to get to know some other students and work as a team.
Later on in the day, we where set a task to create a manifesto in small groups, there where other projects such as create a game and communication. I chose manifesto as it was the one i knew least about and wanted to research and earn more. Once we were in our all groups, it wasn’t long before we came up with an great idea of making a book. We had a great equal term made up of myself (textiles), Loren: Graphics, Ruth: Fine Art, Paige: Maker and Emily: Textiles. We had a broad set of skills and decided to put them together in a book. The plan was to all create a page using our specialised techniques in our subjects.
During our decisions we decided to concentrate on sustainability, and global responsibility in wales. We then came up with the word forever, as we thought sustainability is such a vast and commonly used world, we wanted a word that everyone would understand.
I think the final outcome was really good, it is a great piece of work which was amazing to be created in such a small space of time. We knew what we were doing as a group and go on with it. The piece as a whole is effective, however i think the pieces individually are great. I really enjoyed recreating the piece and putting it together, it was a great experience to get to know other students and to see what their views are and how they work and what they like. it gave me a understand of other specialisms, and has encouraged me to perhaps explore more with other materials, such as metal and computer based work.
It also gave me more ideas of what I should personally concentrate on in they module, iv had an invite on ideas about using living seas theme thought y work since I went to the conference. One of the girls in my ruth was also thinking the same thing, so it was great for us to have a discussion as to what interested us and what we wanted to concentrate on. Ruth was more interested in the depopulation of dolphins in cardigan bay, as I am more leaning towards the sea bed. As a result it was interesting to hear each other ideas, and also to hear the briefs and concentrated ideas in the different subjects.
