After Modernism 1

First Week

Our first session was about Abstract Expressionism, looking into the paintings and find their hidden meaning. For example, to desire to calm or to show cultural leadership, also when it was made such as the cold war. We then concentrated on cubism, and famous artists such as Pabolo Picasso (GUERNICA 1937). Also surrealism, started in 1970 new york, looking at individual hidden meaning though artists imagery.

We looked at the 4 features of abstract experssionism.

  • gesture- the whole body

  • size and scale- bigger, bigger depth

  • All over effect- all of the piece, look at it all
